Welcome... To my house

Why the death of optimus prime is the saddest movie moment ever, the future of open source development on the mac, the current state of education in urban schools, the growing support of public discrimination of homosexuality, Barry Bonds' disgraceful treatment of his talent, the shrinking gap between church and state, Apple's decision to switch to intel processors, the pain of hearing someone say Lenny Kravitz when they mean Jimmy Hendrix.

These are all things (among many others) that have, at one point or another, led me to think about going back to my blogging days. Not to toot my own horn, but I was blogging before it even had a name, back when people used yahoo instead of google, way back during my senior year of high school. Of course, it was a lot of crap, mostly the rambling of a teenage kid, but there was some good stuff too, like my ode to the D train and description of Tommy the Tiler (for those of you interested, the old blog can be seen at http://www.columbia.edu/~jd742/Zindex.html in all of its framed, typoed glory). I actually just looked back over the beast, and it wasn't that bad. I stopped doing it for many reasons (one cannot discount the power of laziness) among them the increasing legitimacy of the blog as a media tool. Something happened recently though that has taken the blog from it's whiny adolescence of xanga and livejournal and elevated it to a more respectable medium. That's not to say there aren't still thousands of crackpots, heartbroken children and generic idiots out there blogging, but that's not all that's out there anymore. AS the world becomes more computer savvy, more people have begun to use the web as a communication tool, and perhaps just from sheer volume, there is now a substantial number of quality blogs.

This is not to say that my new foray into blogging will be any better than the aforementioned crackpots, children and idiots, but at the very least I can try. So hop along for the ride.
